As part of the Office of the University Ombudsperson—established in 1967 and the longest continually operating ombuds office in the U.S.—this role provides impartial, confidential, and informal assistance to students, faculty, and staff navigating conflicts or concerns. The Assistant Ombudsperson plays a key role in fostering a respectful and inclusive campus environment by facilitating problem-solving, coaching individuals, conducting policy research, and identifying systemic patterns to inform institutional learning. This role also supports outreach, training, and collaborative initiatives that strengthen MSU’s commitment to inclusive dialogue and equitable processes. Ideal candidates will demonstrate deep integrity, strong communication skills, and a commitment to the values of neutrality, independence, and empathy. A master’s degree in a relevant field is required, along with experience in conflict resolution or related disciplines. Familiarity with the International Ombuds Association (IOA) Standards of Practice is essential.
