The American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU) is seeking a Director for the American Democracy Project (ADP) to lead its national civic engagement initiative supporting public colleges and universities in preparing informed, active citizens. Based in Washington, D.C., the Director will oversee ADP’s programs, partnerships, communications, events, and fundraising efforts, collaborating across AASCU’s network to advance democratic learning and civic leadership. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in higher education and civic engagement, exceptional project management and relationship-building skills, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. This is a full-time hybrid position offering a salary range of $110,000–$125,000 and a comprehensive benefits package.

Position Overview:
The Director of the American Democracy Project (ADP) provides strategic leadership for AASCU’s long-standing initiative dedicated to preparing informed, active citizens through public higher education. As a key member of the Division of Academic Innovation and Transformation, the Director will oversee all aspects of ADP programming, including civic learning, voter engagement, leadership development, and sustainability initiatives.
This role involves managing national partnerships, supporting member campuses, developing and executing convenings and webinars, overseeing communications and publications, and cultivating funding and sponsorship opportunities. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in civic or democratic engagement in higher education, proven program management and partnership-building skills, and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

This position reports to the Assistant Vice President of Civic and Global Engagement and offers the opportunity to shape impactful national programs that strengthen democracy through higher education.
