Position Overview:
The Finance Director is responsible for managing the financial operations of Participatory Budgeting Project, ensuring the organization’s financial health and sustainability. This role oversees financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, analysis, and compliance while working closely with the Acting Executive Director and Board of Directors to implement strategies that support the organization’s mission. The ideal candidate has a strong financial management background, leadership experience, and a passion for participatory democracy.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Management

• Develop and implement financial strategies aligned with organizational goals
• Manage all financial operations, including accounting, budgeting, forecasting, and analysis
• Ensure accuracy and completeness of financial records and reporting
• Prepare and present financial reports to the Executive Director and Board
• Ensure compliance with tax filings, audits, and other regulatory requirements
• Manage relationships with banks, auditors, insurers, and other financial service providers
• Support invoicing and payment processes, including payroll and expense management
• Enter financial data accurately in QuickBooks
  
  

Budgeting and Forecasting

• Lead annual budgeting processes in collaboration with leadership and program teams
• Monitor performance against budget and provide updates and analysis
• Maintain financial forecasting models to support long-term planning and decision-making
  
  

Leadership

• Lead the Finance Committee to provide strategic guidance
• Mentor finance staff and foster a culture of continuous improvement
• Provide financial expertise to staff and support organizational decision-making
  
  

Board Relations and Reporting

• Report on financial performance, budget status, forecasts, and risks
• Collaborate with leadership and Board to implement and improve financial policies
• Represent the organization at internal and external events as needed
  
  

Tax Filing and Compliance

• Oversee all tax filings and regulatory compliance
• Manage relationships with auditors and financial service providers
  
  

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; MBA or CPA strongly preferred
• Minimum 5 years of progressive financial management experience
• Proven track record in financial strategy, budgeting, reporting, and compliance
• Experience with financial management software, preferably QuickBooks
• Strong leadership, analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for non-financial stakeholders
