The Madison Center for Civic Engagement at JMU is hiring for a permanent Associate Director. The AD spearheads our campus voting effort as well as our dialogue and deliberation initiatives. They get to work with the best undergraduate and graduate students on JMU's campus and innovate new programs while making established programs better. Most importantly, you get to do civic engagement work on a campus that is deeply, institutionally committed to it. The James Madison Center for Civic Engagement, a nonpartisan, high-performing and high-profile administrative entity housed in the Office of the President, invites applications for an associate director to begin in July 2025. We are looking for collegial, creative, energetic, and driven candidates who can develop and carry out mission-focused, high-quality programming in support of JMU’s strategic plans in civic engagement. The Madison Center is home to several significant programs at JMU, including Constitution Day, the Better Conversations Together program, and Dukes Vote which the associate director will oversee and directly manage. We seek a motivated colleague who will build and maintain productive relationships with relevant university stakeholders, as well as with strategic partners in our community, commonwealth, and nation—including research and grant writing opportunities. The ideal candidate will be someone who has passion and experience in doing and practicing civically engaged work. As the staff person in charge of the day-to-day programming of the Madison Center, the ideal candidate will have a vision and expertise for implementing our current programming efficiently and creatively, as well as a vision for potential new opportunities. The associate director must have a commitment to non-partisanship when representing JMU and the Madison Center. Initial review of applications begins March 7, 2025
