Position Overview:
Protect Democracy is seeking a dedicated and organized Legislative & Advocacy Specialist to advance our mission of preventing democratic decline and promoting democratic norms and institutions. In this role, you will collaborate across the organization to develop integrated advocacy strategies that leverage both policy and communications approaches.

Key responsibilities include:

• Building and maintaining productive relationships with congressional offices and partners across the political spectrum to advance organizational priorities.
• Coordinating and tracking legislative outreach to maximize impact and ensure effective coordination across teams.
• Collaborating with members of Congress, agency leaders, experts, and coalition partners to advance pro-democracy legislative reforms.
• Designing and developing policy proposals, memos, and explainers to support legislative initiatives.
• Partnering with colleagues to develop integrated advocacy approaches that combine policy advocacy and communications strategies.
  
  

Qualifications:
The ideal candidate will have:

• A minimum of three years of relevant professional experience, including at least one year in federal legislative advocacy or working on Capitol Hill.
• Proven ability to build trusting and productive relationships with partners across the political spectrum.
• Strong communication skills, with the ability to draft policy proposals and write persuasive policy analysis, articles, memos, and reports.
• Excellent political judgment and the ability to identify effective levers for change with limited resources.
• A growth mindset and enthusiasm for feedback and professional development.
