Paid College Intern - Democracy Matters

Democracy Matters is looking for passionate college students to serve as paid interns and lead campus chapters focused on protecting and expanding American democracy. Interns will organize campaigns connecting social justice issues like climate change and racial justice to broader democratic challenges such as voter suppression and big money in politics. This part-time, semester-based position offers $500 per semester (or course credit), along with additional support for campaign expenses. Position Overview:
Democracy Matters is seeking passionate college students to build and lead DM chapters on their campuses. As a paid intern, you'll mobilize fellow students to protect and expand American democracy through campus organizing that connects issues like climate change, racial justice, and student rights to fundamental democratic challenges including voter suppression, big money in politics, gerrymandering, and attacks on elections. With support and training from Democracy Matters staff, interns develop leadership skills while making meaningful contributions to political reform at both local and national levels.

Key Responsibilities:

• Build coalitions of student activists on your campus
• Create and lead a Democracy Matters chapter to creatively engage students, faculty, and community activists
• Organize at least four campaigns/events per semester focused on democratic reform
• Connect social justice issues to underlying problems in our democratic system
• Engage peers in advocacy for voting rights and campaign finance reform
  
  

Qualifications:

• Currently enrolled college student
• Passionate commitment to social justice and democratic reform
• Some leadership experience (no expertise in campaign finance reform or voting rights required)
• Strong organizational and communication skills
• Ability to build coalitions and engage diverse student groups
  
  

Opportunities:

• Receive weekly training and mentoring from Democracy Matters staff
• Attend the annual National Democracy Matters Student Summit
• Distribute Democracy Matters promotional materials (banner, flyers, t-shirts, etc.)
• Develop as a campus leader within a national coalition for democracy reform
• Gain valuable organizing and advocacy experience
