Expanding the Practice of Collaborative DiscussionEffective discussion is key to fostering understanding, problem-solving, and civic engagement. The Interactivity Foundation’s Collaborative Discussion Project (CDP) is dedicated to enhancing these skills by providing interactive training, innovative tools, and expert facilitation. The 2025 Visiting Fellows—Lori Britt, Don Waisanen, and John Igwebuike—bring a wealth of experience in civic collaboration, creative engagement, and active listening to the project. Their contributions will help expand the CDP’s reach, ensuring that more individuals and organizations can benefit from structured, inclusive discussions. Meet the Fellows![]() Lori Britt is a professor and co-director of the Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue at James Madison University. With a focus on civic collaboration, Lori designs and facilitates discussions that empower communities to tackle challenging issues together. Her passion lies in training students and practitioners to create conversations that foster engagement and problem-solving. ![]() Don Waisanen is a professor at Baruch College CUNY and founder of Communication Upward. Specializing in creative collaboration, Don integrates strategic communication and improvisation techniques to enhance civic engagement. With extensive research and publications on leadership and democracy, he equips individuals with innovative tools for effective discussions. ![]() John Igwebuike is the founder of The Lead Listening Institute and a recognized expert in active listening. His work emphasizes the importance of listening as a tool for inclusion and belonging. Through leadership training, restorative justice facilitation, and public speaking, John helps individuals and organizations build stronger, more empathetic communities.
