Their specialized focus on helping team members learn new ways to work—whether adopting evidence-based practices, applying an equity lens, capturing meaningful metrics, or navigating organizational change—directly supports NCDD's mission of building capacity for collaborative community engagement. Transformative Learning for Social JusticeMindOpen Learning Strategies stands apart in recognizing that effective learning requires more than traditional training approaches. With the fast pace and competing demands of today's workplaces, they understand how easily the full value of professional development can be lost when participants' minds are elsewhere. Their solution centers on research-based, field-tested techniques that draw out each participant's unique expertise while maintaining an open mind to new information and skills. This approach reflects a deep understanding that dialogue and deliberation work best when participants are fully engaged and able to contribute their authentic perspectives. Dr. Speck's background in community-based theatre for social change and her experience as a Licensed Creative Arts Therapist inform innovative methods that make learning experiences both memorable and transformative. The organization's comprehensive service model includes consulting to align goals, roles, and systems with organizational missions; training that builds community through shared learning experiences; and coaching that provides objective, supportive relationships to bring desired change into reality. This holistic approach mirrors NCDD's understanding that effective civic engagement requires multiple pathways and sustained support. Building Capacity Through Evidence-Based PracticeDr. Elizabeth Speck brings 25 years of direct service, management, and capacity-building experience in New York City's complex human service systems to her work with MindOpen Learning Strategies. Her experience adapting to program and policy changes, breaking down systems silos, and building networks of leaders committed to moving beyond the status quo aligns perfectly with NCDD's commitment to fostering collaborative approaches to complex social challenges. As a current Social Innovation Fellow with the Starting Bloc Institute and Fielding Graduate University's Institute for Social Innovation, she continues expanding her toolkit for building thriving organizations. MindOpen's team of dynamic subject matter experts brings specialized knowledge in areas including trauma-informed practice, fair chance policies, curriculum development, family and youth support, and community engagement. This diverse expertise enables them to address the multifaceted challenges that organizations face when working toward social justice goals, providing the kind of comprehensive support that makes dialogue and deliberation efforts more effective and sustainable.
