Upcoming NCDD Webinar on February 14th: Honing Facilitative Leadership Competencies 
NCDD is excited to start a special series of webinars focused on skill building and topics of interest. Our first webinar in this series, Honing Facilitative Leadership Competencies, will be led by Lori Britt, PhD, Professor and Director, James Madison University Institute for Constructive Advocacy and Dialogue, and Lisa-Marie Napoli, Director and Senior Lecturer, PACE (Political and Civic Engagement) Indiana University Bloomington.

Session Description:
We see Facilitative Leadership as a mindset, habits, and skills that focus on not only bringing people together to engage collaboratively and productively across differences and around challenging topics, but importantly, an intention to cultivate this capacity in others. This webinar will overview the concept of Facilitative Leadership and engage participants in some activities focused on honing this capacity and evoking it in those we work with in our communities and on our campuses.

NCDD is thrilled to announce the launch of our NCDD Working Groups and Exchanges - and you're invited to join! 2024 is already looking to be an important year and there is a lot of energy for dialogue, deliberation, and engagement work. NCDD is uniquely positioned to bring together our collective wisdom, experiences, and passion for change to reflect and collaborate together.

Coming out of the 2023 conference, NCDD is excited to be harnessing the collective energy and capacity of this coalition through the formation of working groups that align with key priority areas for the organization, as well as exchanges that will allow the membership to deepen connections. These groups are intended to provide our members with focused opportunities to connect, collaborate, build capacity, and invest in our shared coalition.

Several NCDD members shared updates with us during the monthly NCDD member calls, which are held on Zoom the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific.

• Register your class for Unify America’s College Bowl: As the November election approaches, are you looking for healthy ways to get students talking about politics? In this non-partisan civic engagement program, students from different schools are matched across political divides for one-on-one guided virtual conversations to talk about big goals for our country. • Live Sessions with IAP2 Spectrum Creators: Seven initial ‘webcast’ interviews have been conducted by Margaret Harvie (Australia) and Lewis Michaelson (USA) with some of the people who helped create the International Association for Public Participation (IAP2) building blocks for public engagement. There are free live sessions in February to launch this project and hear from three of the interviewees who met around a kitchen table in the late 1990’s to create the IAP2 Spectrum. • Campus Engagement Response Frameworks: The Sustained Dialogue Campus Network is supporting campuses in responding to the events of the last few months in Israel and Palestine by disseminating this response framework and providing resources for campuses seeking tools to engage across and within beliefs and faith groups.

Ways to Get Involved with NCDD?

• Join the NCDD Network and participate in monthly member calls! Being a member of the NCDD network is making a commitment to be in community together and to explore the next steps we can take to continue to broaden the reach of dialogue & deliberation practices. One of the ways we create community is by hosting monthly Member Calls on the 3rd Wednesday of every month at 2pm Eastern/11am Pacific. These calls are meant to provide an opportunity for members to come together and share exciting announcements with one another, as well as give us as a community additional opportunities to connect, explore best practices, discuss challenges, and collaborate. ​

• Got News to Share? Submit it to the NCDD Blog! NCDD has been blogging for the dialogue and deliberation community since 2004 about job and funding opportunities, training and conferences, national projects and media coverage, and NCDD’s own programs and events.  We also use the blog to share thoughtful opinion pieces by NCDD members and leaders, and to propose new ideas. Do you have an announcement or opinion piece to share? Submit it now!

 

• New Book or materials? Share them in the NCDD Resource Center! The NCDD Resource Center is a clearinghouse of top-notch resources that help people facilitate, teach, plan, evaluate and study dialogue and deliberation. We aim to present each resource in a useful, practical way (not too puff piece-y, jargony or generic), and link directly to the resource so people can get to what they need quickly. Submit your resource here.
