Join NCDD2023 Pre-Conference Events on Oct 12th

As part of NCDD 2023 - the 9th National Conference on Dialogue & Deliberation which officially runs from October 13th-15th, we are thrilled to offer a variety of pre-conference sessions on Thursday, October 12th! 

We’ve launched our pre-conference event page with our first couple of opportunities, and more are coming in the next week or so. Right now you can sign up for two sessions:

• Interactivity Foundation Collaborative Discussion Coach Training
• Deliberation Bootcamp with Martin Carcasson

Collaborative Discussion Coach Training​
This will be a small group, interactive workshop designed to certify collaborative discussion coaches. This training is part of the Collaborative Discussion Project (CDP), a 3-part initiative created by educators and dialogue and deliberation practitioners. The CDP includes: 

1. An open-access toolkit with over 50 ready-to-use activities designed to nurture specific creative, critical, culturally responsive, and civic collaborative discussion skills. 
2. Trainings and workshops to certify coaches in collaborative discussion. Coaches can design and offer their own certificate program in collaborative discussion. Upon successful completion, program participants receive certificates and digital badges from the Interactivity Foundation. 
3. A community of practice, supported through monthly gatherings, weekly newsletters, working teams, financial support, and professional collaborations.  

What does a Collaborative Discussion Coach Training include?

• Introduction to key collaborative discussion concepts
• Deep dive into the Collaborative Discussion Toolkit and IF pedagogy
• Modeled facilitations of selected collaborative discussion activities
• Access to practical and ready-to-use collaborative discussion resources
• Interactive, working team experience with others in the field 
• Final product: your own, uniquely designed certificate program in collaborative discussion that you will be certified to offer upon successful completion of the training  

 
Who should register? Anyone interested in being certified to offer an Interactivity Foundation Certificate in Collaborative Discussion. This role may be particularly interesting to educators, student affairs staff, librarians, community leaders, student leaders, teaching assistants and/or Ph.D. candidates, or professional development managers.

Deliberative Bootcamp
This session, specifically designed for newcomers to the conference, will provide an overall introduction to NCDD and to many of the key concepts, organizations, and challenges related to the field. The session will be led by Martin Carcasson, NCDD Board member and Director of Colorado State University’s Center for Public Deliberation.
